The political science, geology, and arts classes have each provided different angles from which to view our central focuses of coal, oil, and nuclear energy. On our trip to Alaska, living life with an eye on energy, I felt as though things really came together for me– we interacted with energy afterlives in a collage of overlapping experiences which could not be traced back to one single discipline or another. The raw data that shows the casualties of a mining accident, for example, is meaningless without an understanding of the cultural, emotional, and political responses to the event. In this zine I’ve tried to capture the unique experience of learning about coal, oil, and nuclear energy through multiple dimensions at once. I’ve organized this zine around each of the energy types we’ve focused on in all three courses, highlighting the different ways we’ve approached the same themes to show the depth of human and nonhuman interactions with energy sources. I've also included pages on the ways our group personally interacted with the subject matter in order to humanize the experience of our 360 program.
